Starting from the player to the dealer's right and moving counter-clockwise, each player declares their call — the minimum number of tricks they commit to winning this round. The minimum call is 1. Players may not pass or change their call once declared. The sum of all four calls does not need to equal 13.

Play the Tricks

The player to the dealer's right leads the first card. Each subsequent player must follow the led suit if they hold it. If a player cannot follow suit, they must play a spade (trump) if possible. If they hold neither the led suit nor a spade, they may play any card. The highest card of the led suit wins the trick — unless a spade has been played, in which case the highest spade wins.
